We’re live here in New York City for HTC’s Double Exposure event. They’ve got quite a few new devices on tap for us this afternoon. So we’ll be updating this post periodically with new information as it becomes available. So make sure you stay tuned.
As expected HTC has unveiled the HTC Desire Eye. A new smartphone that comes with dual 13MP wide angle lens cameras, one on the front and one on the back, with dual-LED flash for both, giving users the ability to look good in images no matter what angle or lighting they’re taking the picture in. The phone body is made up of two different pieces of plastic in different colors, using a special technique that allowed HTC to produce a phone with a single plastic unibody design, giving the HTC Desire Eye a strong and durable feel and a bold look with the colored accents.
HTC also announced the HTC Eye experience that includes features like Auto-Selfie, Split capture, Face Fusion Technology, and Face Detection to help keep you in the shot and in frame during images and video chats as long as the software can see your face. Pretty exciting stuff.
HTC has also announced HTC Zoe 1.0, the revamped version of their Zoe app that they launched for a small selection of Android phones earlier this year. Not only that, the app is now compatible with Android phones with Android 4.4.3 from all major manufacturers. That means HTC’s Zoe camera app on your LG, Sony, or Samsung device.
HTc just showed off the Re camera, designed to be unobtrusive and held with one hand. HTC states that it’s different from anything else on the market, and can handle photos and videos while allowing the user to stay in the moment and out of the way of having fun. It carries a 146 degree wide angle lens to carry everything so you miss nothing in your shots. It features a 16MP camera which you can take shots with just by pressing the button on the back. A long press initiates 1080P video recording. It’s also waterproof out of the box.
HTC’s specifically designed app to work with the Re camera works with all major smartphone manufacturers, and not just HTC products.The Re app lets users remotely take pictures and record video using their smartphone as the viewfinder for the Re camera, should they be in a situation where the camera can be closer to the subject than they can. Jason Mackenzie, HTC America’s president also stated that updates would be pushed to the Re camera, so that the camera, the app, and the experience all improve over time.
Re camera comes in four different colors, white, navy blue, orange, and teal, and will be available from major retailer outlets, major carriers like Verizon, T-mobile and AT&T, HTC.com, and a new website called Recamera.com built specifically for anything and everything about Re. HTC didn’t give an exact date on the release just yet, but they did mention that Re camera would be available globally, and that in the U.S. Re Camera would be available in time for the holidays, so we’re likely looking at sometime before black Friday shopping begins next month. Pre-orders are already available for the Re camera for $199.99
