CyanogenMod has been around for a very long time now, at least compared with how long Android has been around anyway. This has given them a unique situation in how they deliver their content to people around the world, specifically their version of Android. Cyanogen Inc. has only been an official incorporated company for a little over a year now, and since then we’ve seen their product make its way into only a few phones officially: the Oppo N1 CyanogenMod Edition and of course the OnePlus One with the custom CyanogenMod 11S. Now Cyanogen Inc. has a new partner in Micromax, and its being taken somewhere that it hasn’t been before: India.
While users have been able to unlock their phones and load CyanogenMod on it since the ROM’s inception, the vast majority of Android users out there have never been able to experience the joy of having a custom ROM where the stock Android experience is the main look of the phone, but also includes lots of added features and security. Micromax can get CyanogenMod into the hands of a lot of people too, being India’s largest mobile manufacturer and all. This new partnership comes just after we saw that Cyanogen Inc reportedly turned down an acquisition by Google, leaving many scratching their heads as to why they would turn something so huge down when they seemingly only had one big contract going.
Right now this is pure rumor, but it makes sense given Cyanogen Inc.’s past partnerships with Chinese OEMs and the ability to deliver the amazing CyanogenMod experience to a large number of people for a great price. We expect this phone to be right on par with Micromax’ other offerings and will likely offer a high value to performance ratio, especially with CyanogenMod baked in. Expect plenty of interesting features and maybe even a few unique ones made just for the phone too! With the Android One program already having already begun and Micromax efforts to bring CyanogenMod to the market en mass, now is the best time ever to get an amazing device with the stock Android experience for very little money.
