OK. The wait is over. The time has arrived. People, we are a go. Yes, it is now time to report that the Google Nexus 6 pre-orders have been given a firm and real date. Yes, it’s true. From October 29th (a week on Wednesday) you will be able to log on to the Play Store and buy the Nexus 6. OK, so maybe the opening few sentences were a little dramatic as this is only the pre-pre-order announcements. You will still actually have to wait until October 29th before you can order and then of course you will still have to wait again before the device will actually ship. Not to mention you will then of course have to wait until it actually reaches you. However, such is the demand and interest in this device that even the fact that the pre-order date has been well pre-announced is news.
There is no doubting the Nexus 6 is one of the most talked about devices of the year. Which is surprising as it has only officially been known for a few days, but that has not stopped everyone obsessing over the price, the size and the specs (in that order). So anyway, there you go. If you were waiting to hear when you can order it, the date has been made official albeit in a rather subtle manner. Google did not announce it but simply added the snippet of information to the Nexus 6 page listing. Beyond the date no further information was provided. So what time on October 29th remains a mystery while also the date of shipping is still unknown although speculation is suggested that November 12th will be the shipping date.
Need a reminder of what’s on offer? No, of course you don’t but here it is anyway. The Nexus 6 comes with a Gorilla Glass 3 protected 5.9″ QHD AMOLED display with a 1440 x 2560 (493ppi) resolution. Inside the device comes loaded with 3GB RAM, available in either a 32 or 64GB variant and powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor (clocks at 2.7 GHz). For the happy snappers out there the Nexus 6 offers a 13MP auto-focus rear camera (with optical image stabilization and an f2.0 lens) along with a 2MP front shooter. If you are worried about battery life then don’t be as the Nexus 6 comes with a 3,220 mAh battery. Oh, and did I mention it comes running on Android 5.0? Yep, running on Lollipop. In terms of pricing it is largely expected that the 32GB variant will be priced at roughly $650 while the 64GB variant will be around the $700 marker. Nine days to go people. Then you can pay and wait some more.
