Like the man in the video says…are you ready for the next TWO big things – the new Nexus 6 and the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Our friends over at Carphone Warehouse (link below) did a short video comparing these two large devices against one another – and would you ever imagine that a Nexus smartphone would go up against the 5.7-inch Galaxy Note 4…I guess when the Nexus 6 is packing a 6-inch display! Up until this point, Google has always kept the Nexus line more ‘mainstream’ in the 4.7-5.0-inch range, but with the Nexus 6, made by Motorola, Google decided to shoot for the stars and make it bigger everywhere, including the specifications – allowing it to go head-to-head with what was formerly known as ‘the big boys.’
Both devices are great looking with metal frames and trim – the Nexus uses a dull-matte finished plastic and the Note 4 uses a faux supple leather that looks great – both offer a firm grip. The Galaxy Note 4 uses a sculptured metal frame that is larger on the corners to add more shock-resistance should it be dropped. Returning to the video and the size – the Nexus 6’s 6-inch display is slightly larger than the 5.7-inch found on the Galaxy Note 4 and both are AMOLED technology, although the Note 4 is Samsung’s own Super AMOLED technology and the display was voted the “best ever tested” at DisplayMate Technology labs. Both offer decently small bezel sizes and are sure to satisfy the user with their QHD resolution of 2560 x 1440 with the Nexus 6 coming at 493 pixels-per-inch (PPI) and the Galaxy Note 4 coming in at 515 PPI.
Both devices use the exact same battery size – 3220mAh – to pack in a full day of active use…however, both devices also offer a quick charge capability – the Nexus 6 uses Motorola’s Turbo Charge that can give you up to 6-8 hours of additional usage on only a 15-minute charge. The Samsung Note 4 Quick Charge capabilities, allows you to give the battery a half charge in only 30 minutes time.
Software comparisons show that the Nexus 6 will always have the latest and greatest Android OS – the 5.0 Lollipop version in this case with a pure vanilla experience and no overlays…but on the other hand, the Galaxy Note 4 offers a slew of innovative features like its S-Pen, note taking and drawing options, as well as a heart rate, UV and Oxygen monitors, fingerprint scanner, and other TouchWiz features.
The last place they explore is the camera area – while it is true that picture taking was not always a Nexus strength, with the Nexus 6 they brought the camera up to snuff with 13MP versus the 16MP in the Note 4 and a Dual-Led Flash ring around the lens, which may help in low-light shots. They both have OIS and auto-focus built in and the Note 4 also has Samsung’s own ISOCELL technology for better low-light shots – it will be an interesting shoot-out between these two beasts.
Please look us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think of these two powerhouse devices…as always, we would love to hear from you.
