Now that we’re getting further into the month of October, it’s no surprise that we’re all starting to wonder where the next version of Android and the Nexus 9 are. We’ve heard a number of different dates and possible release schedules, but the one date that keeps coming up is October 15th, which is next Wednesday for those will a grasp on things. Why October 15th? Well, it appears that next Wednesday might be one of the biggest ‘Update Wednesdays’ in a long time for Google.
According to Artem Russakovskii, owner of Android Police, Android L, Android Wear 2.0, the Nexus 9 as well as Android TV are all ‘maybes’ for next week. Of course, this is by no means a confirmation and Google could release the next batch of mobile goodness whenever they so choose, but October 15th is a date we’ve heard before now and Artem, as well as Android Police as a whole, have a pretty decent track record when it comes to predicting what Google is going to do and when. There’s a very good chance that isn’t going to be the date at all though, with word that Apple is going to hold an iPad-focused event on October 16th, the day after. No matter how big Google is these days, showing off your latest and greatest before Apple does the same isn’t the smartest idea as we all know Apple can control a news cycle like no other.
Android Wear 2.0 is an update that many have been waiting for, with the promise of more independent features when your Android Wear watch is disconnected from your smartphone. As for Android L, we’ve seen a lot of what the latest version of Android has to offer and as for the Nexus 9 well, that doesn’t appear so much of a mystery right now, but we’re still waiting to see exactly what Google and HTC have managed to come up with. October 15th seems as good a date as any other, but don’t hold your breath.
