Sony Mobile has been known to put out some really great devices the last couple of years, including the Xperia Z2 line of phones and tablets, and this year’s line of Xperia Z3 devices which are slowly making their way towards the U.S. market. According to some sources in the Taiwanese market, Sony is said to be(rumored)launching a new tablet for the first quarter of 2015, which will likely be announced and come sometime after Mobile World Congress which comes at the end of February. This was around the time that they announced their 2014 flagships the Xperia Z2, Z2 Compact, Tablet Z2 and Tablet Z2 Compact, so it isn’t too hard to believe that this will be time that they will announce a new tablet for 2015.
What’s interesting is the fact that sources state this will be a 12-inch tablet, and come with some sort of a stylus for interaction with the display, perhaps similar to the way that Samsung has done so with their Note line of smartphones and tablets. Digitimes reports that the tablet may also end up coming with some pretty high-end specifications, and if Sony is actually launching a 12-inch tablet sometime in the beginning of next year then we’d imagine high-end specs would be a near necessity to handle the large display and computing power it sounds like Sony has planned for this device.
There is no word on exact specs just yet or what the price range might be for this product, but Sony’s 10-inch tablets and flagship smartphones aren’t exactly on the cheap side so we can probably expect it to cost a fair amount when and if it launches. We would also expect it to come with Sony’s now signature waterproofing standards to help prevent damage from the elements. It’s also stated that Sony may end up only manufacturing and selling a small amount of these tablets to start with, so as to test out the market demand for a tablet that size with the capabilities that are rumored. 12-inch tablets are some of the biggest mobile tablets available, and consumers in some markets have shown some grown interest in devices of this size for professional purposes, but it would be a Sony tablet after all so we can probably expect them to market it with great entertainment possibilities as well. If Sony launched a 12-inch tablet would you be interested? Would you use it for more work or personal tasks?
