Now this is a rumor that should get everyone’s attention. But before we dive in, it’s important to remind everyone that this is a rumor, and should be treated as such. Rumors can be wrong, as we’ve seen in the past, and they can be spot on. So it’s important that we remind everyone of that.
The Sony Xperia Z3X is supposedly going to be Sony’s flagship smartphone. It appears we won’t be seeing another “Ultra” from Sony to follow up the Xperia Z Ultra from last year. We’re looking at a 6.2-inch 2560×1440 resolution display here, Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor (that is a 64-bit processor), 4GB of RAM, no word on the camera size, but we do know it’ll be a 2/3″ sensor with a wide F1.2 aperture. Likely a 20.7MP camera or higher. As that’s what we’ve had in the Xperia Z1/Z1s, Z2 and now Z3.
Below we have a press render of the device – which looks a bit rough and hard to believe – as well as a benchmark. You’ll see the render has a huge camera sensor on the back. And a rectangular flash above it. It looks like this might be Sony’s answer to Nokia’s PureView. Which has a huge camera on the back of the Lumia 1020. But it is a 41MP camera, and takes pretty amazing pictures. Amazing enough to even impress Nick.
There’s no word on when we’ll see this model be announced. But seeing as the Snapdragon 810 isn’t due to be available until Q1 or Q2 of next year. So I’d venture to guess we’ll see it at Sony’s press conference at CES or Mobile World Congress in January or February respectively. We’ll keep an eye out and see what Sony has up their sleeve. They do have an event next week, but we are about 100% certain its for the US variant of the Sony Xperia Z3.
