Early this year Logitech launched a series of Protection [+] Power cases for smartphones. It now seems today they have extended this range to include a case for Samsung’s flagship device, the Galaxy S5. The new case is designed specifically for the S5 ensuring a perfect fit and look. The case itself is a rugged case designed to protect the S5 from a number of falls, scrapes and bumps. In fact according to Logitech the Protective [+] cases are so durable that they exceeds the U.S. Military drop-test standard (MIL-STD 810 G). In short this ensures the S5 is protected from drops up to 1.22 meters in height. The Protection [+] cases also include a layer of thermoplastic rubber (along with additional ‘impact channels’) which are in place to further absorb shocks on impact. In addition, the cases include a raised bezel on the front which is designed to protect the screens surface from cracking on impact.
The Protection [+] is being released in two versions – the standard Protection [+] and the rechargeable Protection [+] Power. As the names suggest the cases are identical in all respects with the exception that the Protection [+] Power offers a rechargeable element. This case will literally charge the S5 while it is housed. The battery inside consists of a 2,300mAh battery which according to Logitech will increase the battery life of the S5 by up to 80%. In addition, both the Protection [+] and Protection [+] Power include a metal layer hidden within the cases backing which allows the use of Logitech’s magnetic mounts.
This means users can magnetically attach the S5 to their car’s dashboard or any similar surfaces where the mounts are placed. This includes compatibility with Logitech’s [+]trip which is a dashboard air vent mount and also the [+]drive which is Logitech’s windscreen based mount. If you are interested then they are both currently available to pre-order through the Logitech website and as you would expect are quite drastically different in price due to the additional power element of the Protection + Power. The standard non-powered version is currently priced at $39.99 while the powered version is listed at $99.99. Got an S5? Sounds like a decent case and especially the powered version.
