Our favorite Electronics Giant has some exciting news for us when it comes to connectivity. Remember when 4G LTE first ever came out and people were wowed by the lightening fast speeds of the network? Compared to wifi, you wouldn’t have been able to distinguish the two. As more people continue to connect to the digital world, faster speeds and larger bandwidth will soon be needed. This is where Samsung comes in with an idea that was once given the cold shoulder during an ITU-R WP 5D Meeting. So what is this insanely fast network that samsung wants everyone to get connected too? Well it is none other than 5G. Samsung has already proved that they are the company to build and grow this network due to record breaking data transfer of 4.6Gbps using 60GHz Wi-Fi 802.11ad technology which indeed is awfully fast.
In a video posted on Samsung Tomorrow, the company explains the importance of 5G networks and how it will benefit us in the future. Now 5G networks are going to have a lot of perks. From performing data transfers with speeds of up to 7.5Gbps, 5G networks will be able to handle more devices and offer a much wider bandwidth. 5G pretty much surpasses 4G LTE by a long run with the help of mmWave frequency bands that will be used to build 5G mobile communication networks. In the video, Samsung Engineers demonstrated how back in 2012 they built a test system for 5G technology. With mmWave frequency bands, Samsung successfully transferred data at a rate of 1Gbps to a car moving with a speed of 100 km/h; Sounds amazing right?
By 2018 Samsung plans to unveil 5G technology, which around that time, the Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics will be going on. According to Samsung, devices that are connected to a 5G network will be able to see 3D images of sports through holograms. That may seem like a stretch with the whole hologram ordeal but we’ll just have to wait and see.
