Sony Xperia Z2 May Inherit PlayStation 4 Remote Play From Xperia Z3 Series

One of the coolest features of the Sony Xperia Z3 range (encompassing the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact) is PlayStation 4 Remote Play. PlayStation 4 Remote Play is a way of continuing your game from the PlayStation 4 on your mobile device using a Dual Shock 4 wireless controller. Once the PlayStation 4 has been paired up to the Z3, players can pause the game on the PlayStation 4 and pick it up on your Z3 device. Sony state that a “high-capacity Internet connection” is required and not all games are compatible. PlayStation 4 Remote Play has officially been only available for the Xperia Z3. We’ve already seen that the Remote Play functionality is available to non-Xperia devices via a hack but now it appears that Sony are preparing to make the facility available to the outgoing Sony flagship model, the Xperia Z2, thanks to a slip-up in the Xperia Lounge app.

When comparing the specification of the Xperia Z2 and Z3, this is not surprising. The Sony Xperia Z3 has very similar hardware compared with the Sony Xperia Z2: it has a slightly higher performance processor, a quad core 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor compared with a quad core 2.3 GHz in the Xperia Z2. Both devices have a 1080p screen and 3 GB of memory and whilst the Z3 has a slightly higher performance processor, having used the two devices back to back it wasn’t noticeable: Sony have very gently polished the Xperia Z3 compared with the Z2. If anything, with the Z3 being slightly thinner than the Z2 and having a higher clock speed, I would expect it to get warm when gaming and if this is the case, the processor will start to reduce clock speeds to stop itself from burning up; it’s possible that the Z2 will be quicker after forty minutes of gaming!

This text hasn’t been duplicated on other Sony media so it’s either an inadvertent leak or it’s a typographic error, which we know happens from time to time. However, if Remote Play isn’t being rolled back to the Z2 next month, I would hope that it’s only a matter of time. But what do you think? Hit us up in the comments below.
