Sponsored App Review: HQ Papers (Wallpaper Pack)

Description: HQ Papers is an Android app that’s full of high quality wallpapers to help liven up your homescreen. There are over 300 different wallpapers included in the app, with styles that range from stripy patterns, Batman logos, diamond patters all the way down to inspirational slogans. There’s a lot on offer here and while there is an upfront cost, there’s no need to deal with any nasty ads or in-app purchases and the selection is constantly expanding as more and more wallpapers are added. You can use the built-in app to choose from a number of different collections, each with their own color variations and styles. There’s even Muzei support for those that like a change every day or so. An app built for those looking to build their perfect homescreen, HQ Papers has over 300 different styles available and below we take a look at what the app has to offer.

How it Works: You’ve got to download the HQ Papers app from the Play Store, but all of the wallpapers are quickly downloaded when you want them, so there’s no need to worry about space on your smartphone or tablet. Once you’ve done that, you can go ahead and take a look at the app and change some of the settings and such from the slight-out menu.

Taking a look at the wallpapers themselves is of course the real fun here, and you can use the drop-down menu at the top of the app to choose a collection.

Each collection has a theme that is pretty obvious by its name, so stripes will of course be different variations on stripes, as we can see below.

The stripes wallpapers are all pretty much the same wallpaper, and this is a theme that recurs throughout the use of HQ Papers, but for those that want to build their perfect homescreen a lot of the shapes and patterns here will really help you get a minimal, yet good-looking theme on your homescreen. If you’re drawn to a particular color, which makes up the main theme for your device, you’ll be able to find each wallpaper in a variety of colors, allowing you to choose your favorite color in stripes, Batman or from the other patterns and designs.

There is a lot of choice here with HQ Papers, and comic fans will love these Batman wallpapers.

The app is fairly new, with the collection having only been launched in the past month or so and it’s constantly growing. If you’d like to request a different color or have new suggestions you can email the developer directly or join the Google+ Community. The developer is very active and always listening to their users, so why not reach out with a fresh idea?

Opinion: I’ve reviewed a lot of wallpaper apps here and I have a few favorites that I use from time-to-time, and while a lot of them give you access to far more variety than there is here with HQ Papers, it’s very hard to find something that works well the moment you apply it. Here though, HQ Papers has a number of different collections, that don’t get in the way of your favorite widgets and are nice and minimal. Having some curation like this goes a long way and while it is true that many of them are just the same wallpaper in a different color, they all look pretty good, especially those Batman logos. All-in-all, it’s nice to come across a wallpaper pack that doesn’t try too hard and just offers what it should do; a great collection of styles and colors.

Ratings

  • Speed (4/5) – HQ Papers runs nice and speedily, with no waiting for wallpapers to download.
  • Features (4/5) – With over 300 wallpapers on offer, there’s no denying that there’s a decent variety on offer here and I really liked a good number of the designs.
  • Theme (5/5) – While these patters and designs might be a little too minimal for some users, I find them refreshing and the color shades here are nice and deep, giving your homescreen a nice professional type of feel without it being boring. If you want good-looking, calm wallpapers for your homescreen, then this is a great option.
  • Overall (4/5) – A solid collection of wallpapers that will go with any system theme and widget combinations, there’s something for every style here, with more options aimed at fans of minimalism, and the whole collection works brilliantly.

Pros

  • Over 300 wallpapers with more being added with each update.
  • Muzei support for fans of the popular live wallpaper.
  • Colorful, yet sophisticated, HQ Papers will bring a sense of class to your smartphone or tablet.
  • Easy to use app with simple named collections that’s easy to navigate.

Cons

  • A lot of the designs are very similar from one another.
  • Large number of wallpapers is only really made up by many of the same designs being available in a different color.

Conclusion: The variety might not be quite as wide as I had hoped, HQ Papers is more about a classy look and it’s one that I really took to. I like my homescreen to look sharp, but I don’t want it to feel cluttered. Photographs and such happen to do that, but with HQ Papers you can bring order, and a little class, to your homescreen with a choice of over 300 quality wallpapers. HQ Papers is an app that’s just getting started, with more and more wallpapers being added and as of writing it’s only a month old, so there’s definitely more to come.
