When Twitter updated its APIs to make life harder for developers, it was assumed that developers of Twitter apps would stop updating their apps. However, that didn’t happen, despite great apps, such as Falcon for Twitter, reaching the 100,000 token limit that Twitter introduced and effectively dying. Though the developer for Falcon found a workaround for the app, it hasn’t been updated as often as it had before and few people use it. Now, another popular app has fallen to the token limit; Talon for Twitter.
The developer for the app has decided to take the app down from the Play Store, as now no one new will be able to use the app. What this means for current users is that though the app has been removed from the Play Store, as long as you still have your token, you can still use the app. Luke Klinker, the developer of the app, has stated that he will continue to improve the app despite its relative demise.
However, Luke has stated that he’s been preparing for this app, which is why he’s released a new version of the app called Talon for Twitter Plus. This new version has been made separately from the classic version and is made entirely for Android 5.0 Lollipop. This means that the app has its own 100,000 tokens, for new users and old ones that want the new look.
The app comes with a design overhaul suited for Material Design and is now available on the Play Store for users of the Android Lollipop Developer Preview, and will most likely be launched after the final version of the update is released by Google. That means that this new app cannot be installed on older builds of Android.
Talon seems to be the first major Twitter app whose developer has given it a Material Design makeover, though the classic version of the app did get a slight update a few weeks ago. If the actual Twitter app doesn’t float your boat, given its lack of any Material Design, give Talon for Twitter a try at the Google Play Store now.
