Unless you’ve been living under a rock for most of the afternoon, you’ll no doubt have noticed that Google has dropped a handful of new devices on us, all of running Android 5.0, which we now know to be called Android Lollipop. There’s a new statue and everything. So, while the Google Nexus 6, Google Nexus 9 and the Nexus Player are the real meat of today’s fairly low-key announcements from Google, you might be wondering – like I am – just where and when you’ll be able to get your hands on these devices in the UK. If you’re in need of a recap on today’s big announcements, there’s more on the Nexus 6 here and the Nexus 9 here.
While official prices for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 haven’t been detailed for the UK just yet, it’s a safe bet to say that the pre-order date of October 17th (read: this Friday!) is going to ring true for the Nexus 9. As for the new Motorola Nexus 6, it’s less clear as to when we’re going to see the goliath go on sale in the UK, but it should be launching some time in November. Back to the Nexus 9 for a second and it’ll be headed to the following stores across the pond: Currys, PC World, John Lewis, Argos and Amazon. That’s about the same sort of launch partners Google had lined up for last year’s Nexus 7 and they’re also adding in O2 and Three UK to get the ball rolling with the networks.
If the Nexus 9 is to start at $399 in the US, I’m willing to bet that it’s going to start at £349 in the UK. Of course, I hope I’m wrong, that’s a lot of cash for a tablet that used to be known as the best value out there, rather than an outright cash cow. As for the Nexus 9, this is likely to cost more than the £300 Nexus 5 did when it launched this time last year and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Motorola Nexus to launch for £399, but again I hope I am working. When we get official word from Google concerning both devices I’ll be sure to update this post accordingly.
