Android 5.0 Lollipop update is supposed to start rolling out for Nexus devices today, but it seems Motorola managed to trump Google and actually start pushing the update for the 2nd gen Moto G before anyone expected. Nexus devices are always the first go get the updates, but Motorola did a great job and quickly optimized their nearly stock UI to Android Lollipop and started pushing the OTA update to Moto G. The update seems to be for unlocked U.S. variant of the device for the time being, but the rest of the Moto G versions should get it soon. So, if you own an unlocked U.S. variant of the device, check if Lollipop came knockin’ on your door yet. Nexus 4, 5, 7 (both 2012 and 2013) and 10 should start getting the OTA updates soon. Nexus 7’s (2012) factory image already leaked and I’m rather sure Google will start pushing OTA’s for all those Nexus devices in the next 24 hours.
Motorola Moto G (2nd gen) features a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) IPS LCD display along with 1GB of RAM for your multitasking needs and 16 or 32GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 32GB). This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400, a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which comes with an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of the device, you’ll find an 8-megapixel main camera while there’s a 2-megapixel shooter located on the front of the device. The handset was originally announced and released back in September and it ships with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box, but Android 5.0 Lollipop is already here as you can see. The handset comes with a non-removable 2070mAh battery and a front-facing speaker, which is always a welcomed addition to any smartphone. 141.5 x 70.7 x 11mm are the device’s measurements and it weighs 149 grams.
It seems really odd Motorola started pushing OTA updates before Google did for its Nexus devices, but hey, kudos to Motorola. If you own an unlocked U.S. variant of the Moto G, you will get the update soon (if you haven’t already) and the rest of you who own other variants of the device will quite probably get the update soon as well.
