It only a year and a bunch of delays, but Coin, the universal credit card that will store and replace all of your existing cards, is shipping to a few early backers. Coin was supposed to start shipping to backers in the summer of 2014, but we haven’t heard a peep from the company until now. The company didn’t make any sort of a public announcement, but the news have been confirmed through a customer support agent talking to TechCrunch. “Good news, Coin has started shipping to US Backers! At this point in time, I do not know when anyone will receive theirs as everyone is sent a personal tracking number through their email, and the shipment depends on when they ordered. We do know that some people have already received theirs, and we couldn’t be happier! Please let us know if you have additional questions or concerns as we are always happy to help,” the customer service representative said.
Users started showing up on Twitter two days ago as backers started to get tracking numbers sent to them for their Coin packages. A few people on Twitter starting getting their Coin packages and posting pictures of the product. Coin didn’t announce anything, and it seems that the device is shipping to early backers who bought in when the Coin program was in beta. These are super early backers who have been waiting for a year or so. A lot of them had given up on Coin and vocalized displeasure with the company and the delays.
These early Coin cards are shipping to backers that are living the US. International backers have been given a rough time of “Spring 2015” for their cards to start shipping to them. That’s really vague. It doesn’t tell us what countries will get it first or even what month the Coin cards will start shipping internationally. For now, backers in US should keep an eye out for a shipping notification. The rest of the world will have to continue to wait.
