Samsung has announced company’s odd-looking Galaxy Note Edge handset back at IFA in Berlin. This handset sports a curved Edge screen which has its own set of functions, it acts as a separate panel to the main screen and offers specific functions, depending on what the main screen is showing. This handset offers all the features you can find in the much more popular Galaxy Note 4 handset, even the S Pen which is tucked away in the device itself. Samsung immediately said that the availability of this handset will be somewhat limited, though the device has launched on certain carriers in the U.S. and some other parts of the world, South Korea and Japan for example. Galaxy Note Edge was also listed in Hong Kong and it carries an enormous price tag of HK$7,498, which is about $967. Well, this handset has just been listed on Samsung’s Chinese website, as was rumored earlier. The price is not listed however, not yet anyhow, though the rumors are saying that the device will cost 6899 Yuan, which is about $1122, I believe I don’t need to explain how insane that price is.
Galaxy Note 4 Edge features a 5.6-inch 2K (2560 x 1600) display along with 3GB of RAM and 32 or 64GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB). This device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor clocked at 2.7GHz which comes with an Adreno 420 GPU for graphics rendering. 16-megapixel OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) camera is located at the back of the device while there’s a 3.7-megapixel shooter included up front. The device measures 151.3 x 82.4 x 8.3mm and weighs 174 grams. Android 4.4.4 KitKat comes pre-installed on this device with Samsung’s Revolving UX on top of it. 3000mAh battery is also part of the package and it should last you a whole day without any problems, at least judging by the first impressions all over the web.
If the price rumors turn out to be true, I doubt many people will go for this handset. 6899 Yuan is an awful lot of money and I doubt many people can / want to pay that much for this handset, but we’ll find out soon.
