Google's Nest Launches Four Videos Advertising Their Serious Products In A Not So Serious Way

You’ve probably heard ‘Nest’ mentioned a few times already around these parts. That’s because the company was purchased by Google back in January of this year. Why? Well, that’s simple. Google likes smart things and Nest Labs makes a lot of smart things. Especially, smart things for your house. Unlike what we have seen more recently with smart refrigerators, smart cookers and smart TV’s, Nest instead focuses on the more mundane things in your house. You know, your thermostat and smoke alarm. That sort of thing. Although they are mundane, there are essential and in some cases literally life-saving.

To help promote the new smart products Nest have released a number of videos to showcase what they can do. You might think such mundane products might use more serious and boring adverts although that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Instead the Nest adverts are actually pretty good and funny. The four videos are being used to promote the Nest learning thermostat, Nest Dropcam (which is basically an indoor security camera) and the Nest smoke alarm. One of the interesting things about the videos is they are under the communal title “everyone loves Nest”. Although, the basis of the videos is that not everyone loves Nest. Taking the ironic road, the Nest videos focus on those who would not be so happy with the installing of such products. These include a grumpy granddad, a child who likes to ‘abstractly’ destroy things and a dog. The last video is probably the best and shows a guy who uses his Nest smoking alarm to help facilitate his need to constantly check for any in-house fires…or the lack of them.

As always, the four videos are shown below for your viewing pleasure. Of course, these are very serious matters and the products being described are serious products. That said, its nice to see Nest taking a more novel approach to how they advertise the products and their use. If it helps more people sway towards installing them then it can only be a good thing. Anyway, check out the videos and let us know what you think. Also let us know what you think of Google’s Nest and their products in general.
