HTC Desire 820s popped up on AnTuTu and in TENAA listing last month and now this Taiwanese company has officially unveiled this handset. HTC has revealed HTC Desire 820s on company’s official Weibo account. HTC Desire 820s is rather similar to the original Desire 820 in almost all aspects, it features the same display, cameras, RAM count, etc., but it seems HTC has opted to include a different SoC in this handset. So, let’s check out what it has to offer.
The original HTC Desire 820 features a 64-bit Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor (4 x 1.5GHz & 4 x 1.0GHz) and it seems this handset features a completely different chip on the inside. This processor is clocked at 1.7GHz which leads us to believe we’re talking about a MediaTek chip, quite probably a 64-bit octa-core chip, could be the MediaTek MT6752. This isn’t exactly a surprise considering it seems like this device is meant to launch only on Chinese market, though HTC might surprise us in the end. This MediaTek chip supports LTE connectivity and fits the bill, so it makes sense. Desire 820s features the 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) panel you can find in the original Desire 820, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage are also accounted for. 13-megapixel camera can be located on the back while there’s a 8-megapixel sensor available up front. BoomSound speakers also seem to be included here.
As I already mentioned, my guess is this device will be available in Asia only. HTC already has the original Desire 820 to sell worldwide which has a more mainstream Snapdragon 615 processor, this MediaTek variant will quite probably stay in China, though HTC might prove me wrong of course. Cutting costs might be the main reason HTC decided to manufacture a completely new variant of this device. No word on the pricing just yet, but HTC will have to price this carefully, it’s easy to overprice your smartphone for the Chinese market and get crushed in sales by the companies like Xiaomi, Meizu, Elephone, etc. Do you think HTC will be able to get the price right when it comes to this handset, what is your guess, how much will it cost?
