Its been a funny sort of day. Only this morning there was the news that Motorola seemed to be beating Nexus to the punch when it came to the now infamous Android 5.0 Lollipop updates. The Moto X and Moto G devices are both well on their way to Lollipop land. Then a few hours pass and low and behold Lollipop for the Nexus 7 has leaked.
Yes folks. You heard right. If you own A Nexus 7 2012 and have been impatiently waiting for Google to roll out the OTA then the wait is over. Somehow and for some reason (Motorola making waves maybe) the latest Android update is here. Now before you all get too carried away. Here is the disclaimer. This is a leak. I repeat. This is a leak. It is believed this is the final version but being a leak, you can never be sure of anything. That said, the build number for the current update is LRX21P. Which again falls in line with the build numbers for the Nexus 9 and Nexus Player updates. Now if you are planning to install this update then obviously you do so at your own risk (disclaimer number two). Also, it is assumed you know by now how to install these types of updates. As always, you will need an unlocked bootloader. You will need to have the SDK installed on your computer. And you will need to input the usual ADB commands to flash the image. If none of that made sense to you then I would strongly encourage you to not bother with this update. If you don’t have the tools or the knowledge you can seriously do some damage. Not to mention the actual OTA is due to land any day now.
Still game? Well in that case click this link to head over to Android Police who has the direct update link. The update is just over 370MB in size and is in the form of typical factory images. They are signed by Google but Android Police do note there seems to be a problem with the bootloader image. However, they also note there is no need to worry about this as it should be the same bootloader image you already have on your system. If you encounter any issues just skip the bootloader image and flash the rest. So there you go. Lollipop has arrived…at least for the Nexus 7 2012. If you do flash it then let us know how you get on.
