Now that Lollipop has been rolled out to most Nexus devices and Android 5.0 has been officially announced, we’re starting to see more and more apps come out of the wood work with Material Design updates. While this includes Google’s suite of core applications it also pertains to other apps as well, even simpler ones like this latest update with Light Flow. Light Flow-LED Control is an app that lets you do just what it says, control the colors of your LED notification indicator to match certain apps. Perhaps match is the incorrect word, although you can attempt to match the color of the LED light up with a main color accent used for an app, with an example being Hangouts messages and a green LED.
In changing out your LED colors for each notification you can set them apart so you always know what the notification is from before you even wake your display. I personally do something similar with the ringtone, giving a specific ringtone to individual notifications so if I hear it come in I know what it is. Light Flow can help in this way by giving you a visual description just with the color, alerting you to what the notification is coming from. The different color LED’s look cool too, and it’s a fun change of pace to see the LED blink green or red instead of the standard white like most Nexus owners are used to.
The app’s latest update brings in the Material Design UI overhaul that we’ve seen from the likes of other apps, and it’s nice to see that even simple apps like Light Flow are taking the new design guidelines seriously and to heart.We wish more developers would do the same. Besides the Material Design refresh, the app update also makes Light Flow compatible with devices running Android 5.0 Lollipop where as it supposedly didn’t work prior. There is also now support for a couple new Google apps, like the new default messenger app in Lollipop, as well as Inbox by Gmail. There’s also new words with friends support, support for Google Now reminders, and the ability to display the LED indicator when priority mode is turned on. Now that’s a nifty feature. You can grab the full version of Light Flow – LED Control for $2.49 or you can pick up the lite version for free which has a few less features. It should also be noted that the Material Design style only appears to come with the paid version of the app.
