Nvidia Shield Tablet Will Be Among The First Devices To Get Android Lollipop This November

Lollipop is scheduled to be dropping for the previous generation Nexus devices in just a couple of weeks, the expected release date is supposed to be November 12th, and by now everyone is probably wondering when their smartphones and tablets will be getting the update to Android 5.0 too. If you’re an owner of the Nvidia Shield Tablet or are preparing to buy one, the answer to that questions is apparently this November as well. We heard from Nvidia today that they will be bringing Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Shield Tablet this November, although they didn’t mention a specific date. We already knew that Nvidia was going to be updating their Shield Tablet to Lollipop as they had mentioned this recently, but we didn’t really know when.

Although we still don’t have the exact date, we now know that it will in fact be this month, and who knows it could end up being sometime close to the scheduled OTA updates for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and the Nexus tablets. Nvidia was kind enough to upload a sneak peek at Android 5.0 Lollipop running on the Shield Tablet prior to them sending it out to the device users, which we have posted below so if you’re eager to see things in action give that a watch. Nvidia also mentions in the video that the Shield Tablet will be among the first devices to receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA, so there’s a good chance that users could start seeing updates in as early as a couple weeks from now when Google pushes it out.

All the goodies that come along with this update of course includes the Material Design UI style, along with a new Nvidia Shield Hub app with a brand new UI which they show off in the video as well. The update also comes with a brand new Nvidia Dabbler app, featuring a new UI just like the new Shield Hub app. Dabbler is basically like a sketchbook type application that allows for digital drawing and illustrations. It actually looks like a pretty comprehensive app with tons of features. You can expect the Lollipop goodness to hit soon, so look out for those OTA notifications to hit your status bars.
