OnePlus One is a rather peculiar smartphone, for many reasons actually. This handset packs an enormous amount of power on the inside and yet OnePlus is offering it at an extremely affordable price point. This Chinese smartphone manufacturer had a rather odd strategy for this smartphone, you needed an invitation in order to be eligible to buy this handset, which made a lot of people angry, which is understandable. OnePlus One was announced back in April and was launched in June this year and you may see many people in the tech industry actually using this handset as their daily driver.
The original price for the handset was $299 for the 16GB version, the 64GB version, on the other hand, costs $349. Considering the specs of this bad boy, these prices are… well, unbelievable. One more thing that sparked people’s attention is the fact this handset runs CyanogenMod ROM out of the box, which is actually quite a plus for Android lovers, part of them at least. OnePlus One had limited availability, the device was certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent of the FCC) back in September and it seems like the device will be on sale in China really soon. Chinese portal, TechWeb, actually shared a China Unicom leaflet (pictured down below) with OnePlus One pictured on it. The phone is coming soon according to the source and China Unicom will sell the phone. This handset will support China Unicom’s 3G and 4G network bands.
OnePlus One sports a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) LTPS LCD display along with 3GB of RAM for your multitasking needs and 16 or 64GB of non-expandable internal storage. This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor clocked at 2.5GHz which comes with an Adreno 330 GPU for graphics rendering. 13-megapixel camera is located at the back of this device and is flanked by a dual-LED flash, while there’s a 5-megapixel shooter available on the front side of the device. The device ships with Android 4.4.2 KitKat, but it can be immediately updated to Android 4.4.4 KitKat and Android 5.0 Lollipop is on the way. Cyanogenmod ROM is on top of Android here, as I already mentioned, which gives you all sorts of customization options and a really bloat-free device. 3100mAh non-removable Li-Po battery is also a part of this package. The device measures 152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm while it weighs 162 grams.
