Samsung announced company’s mid-range Galaxy Grand 2 handset in November last year. Galaxy Grand 2 features a 5.25-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 64GB). This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz which comes with an Adreno 305 GPU for graphics rendering. 8 and 1.9-megapixel camera are also included in that device and it ships with Android 4.3 JellyBean although it’s upgradeable to Android 4.4 KitKat. It was just a matter of time when we’ll see some info about this handset’s successor considering it’s been a year since it launched. Well, that just happened, Galaxy Grand 3 popped up on GFXBench benchmarks.
Galaxy Grand 3 will feature a somewhat improved spec sheet, as expected. According to the GFXBench listing, the handset will feature a 5.5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display and it will keep the 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage we’ve seen in its predecessor. Instead of the Snapdragon 400 chip which was used in the Grand 2, this handset will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 64-bit CPU clocked at 1.2GHz and an Adreno 306 GPU. Instead of the 8 and 1.9-megapixel shooter, Galaxy Grand 3 will feature 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 5-megapixel shooter on the front of the device. The device will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat pre-installed on top of which you’ll be able to find Samsung’s TouchWiz UI of course. NFC won’t be included in this device and it is expected to launch in India just like its predecessor. If I had to guess I’d say Samsung will launch this handset this month, though we don’t know any details about it at the moment.
Samsung Galaxy Grand 3 is just a slightly updated Grand 2. This is still very much a mid-range handset which features a better CPU, bigger screen and improved camera sensors. That’s basically it, not that I expected anything else. Galaxy Grand 3 is exactly what it needs to be, a mid-ranger which obviously has its consumer base considering this is the 3rd Galaxy Grand device Samsung has decided to push to the market.
