If you’re a fan of Samsung’s Gear line of smartwatches and you also happen to be an Indian resident, then you’ll be happy to note that Samsung has opened pre-orders for their latest smartwatch-come-smartphone and it’s available to pre-order now. In case you’re unsure what the Gear S actually is, it’s the latest in Samsung’s long line of Gear smartwatches except that this one can survive on its own so to speak, there’s no need for this guy to be lost in the woods when it’s not paired to its smartphone friend. It’s also got a very nice looking 2-inch curved AMOLED display that should be nice just to show off to friends if nothing else.
Let’s get down to pricing, and right away the Gear S isn’t what you’d call cheap, by any stretch. It’s priced at RS 28,900, which is say three reasonably priced smartphone on their own, but then again this is Samsung we’re talking about. For those looking to pre-order, they’ll have to put down RS 1,000 in order to get an electronic coupon which will reduce the final amount you pay when they finally go on sale in earnest. Just when that is however, isn’t exactly clear just yet, but we can’t imagine Samsung looking to drag their feet with this, as the Gear S is an important launch for them.
The Gear S also comes with Samsung’s Tizen-based OS as well as a 1 Ghz dual-core CPU, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage for apps and such. All-in-all, a decent package, but whether or not it’s worth almost RS 30,000 is another thing and something only you can answer. While pre-orders are open now, there’s no concrete date just yet as to when they’ll be shipping or go on sale. Hopefully though, that’ll be soon and while the price is high, for Samsung fans this might be the smartwatch that they’ve been waiting for, if they’re rich of course.
