Sharp has been hitting the headlines quite often lately. This Japanese company is all over the place, they’re releasing smartphones, developing smartphone screens and even trying to come up with a new technology as far as smartwatch displays go. The company has announced an interesting smartphone back in August, Sharp Aquos Crystal, also referred to as the “bezelless smartphone”. That’s not entirely accurate though, this handset has a “chin” below the screen, but it doesn’t have bezels anywhere else. The device looks somewhat odd because of it, true, but that makes it really interesting. Sharp had to put the front facing camera, proximity sensor, light sensor… somewhere though, hence the “chin”. We’ve already reviewed this handset, so if you’re interested to check that out, follow this link.
Chinese portal ewisetech dismantled this handset in order to check out what’s on the inside. The handset wasn’t difficult to open at all according to the portal. The 2040mAh battery on the inside is actually made by Sony and is only 2.9mm thick, which is a relatively thin for a 2040mAh unit. Motherboard was also revealed as well as all the other components, everything is in order and according to specifications, check out the gallery down below and you’ll see a bunch of teardown images. Talking about specs, Sharp Aquos Crystal sports a 5-inch 720p (1280 x 720) display along with 1.5GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB). This handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 CPU clocked at 1.2GHz and an Adreno 305 GPU. On the back of the device you can find an 8-megapixel shooter which is flanked by an LED flash, there’s also a 1.2-megapixel snapper located on the front of the device. This handset ships with the aforementioned 2040mAh battery and Android 4.4.2 KitKat while it weighs 141 grams. Sharp Aquos Crystal measures 131 x 67 x 10mm.
This is a mid-range handset and I’d even call it a prototype device. It seems to me like Sharp just wanted to showcase a device which has a bezel only on 1 side and this device does a great job doing that. Do you like this handset?
