Team Win Brings TWRP Custom Recovery To Android One Devices

Android One devices are the fruit of Google’s efforts to bring a better Android smartphone experience to emerging markets, while still offering those devices at an affordable cost to the consumer. Like many other Android devices out on the market already, Android One phones deserve some tinkering too. Part of the tinkering process involves rooting, and perhaps throwing on a custom ROM, but before all of that you need to have a custom recovery installed. One of the most popular custom recoveries out there comes from Team Win with Team Win Recovery Project, and they have brought it over to the likes of the currently available Android One line of smartphones.

Before you get started with potentially flashing the TWRP custom recovery to your Android One device, it’s a good idea to go over the basics of what you’ll need for your specific phone. The good news with the Android One products, is that they largely contain close to the same software and hardware specifications. With this, it was easy for Team Win to get a build of TWRP going for Android One that has a great chance of being compatible with all three currently available products. This includes the Micromax Canvas A1along with the Spice Dream UNO Mo-498 and the Karbonn Sparkle V. We have no way of knowing for sure ourselves if this works with all three phones of course. Right now there are no device specific known issues which is a good thing, but it could also be due to the fact that many people might not be using this recovery yet and therefore haven’t come across any issues to make them known.

There are two methods with which the recovery can be installed on the device, one of which is through the Android App from Team Win which you can download from the Play Store called TWRP Manager. The method is pretty straight forward, and all you have to do is open the app, tap on “install TWRP” and find your device in the list. Once you tap on your device just hit the install button and the app will take over from there. The other way you can get this recovery onto your device is by installing it from Fastboot mode. To do this you’ll need to grab the recovery image from the TWRP page for Android One, and the enter the correct commands. You can find all that information at the source link below. These kinds of things usually do a complete data wipe, so make sure to back up anything important that you don’t want to lose.
