While Chinese manufacturers enjoy far more success putting together smartphones at an affordable price with some decent specs, there are a handful of them that make some decent Android tablets, as well as tablets in general. Telecast is a firm that you’ve probably not heard of before, but if you’re the sort of user that doesn’t like putting all their eggs in one basket, then you might want to start taking notice. The X98 Air 3G is a 9.7-inch tablet that will run your choice of either Android 4.4 KitKat or Windows 8.1. If that sounds compelling to you, then you might want to take a look at the the overall specs, too.
As we said, this is a 9.7-inch tablet and the high-resolution display of 2048 x 1536 matches up nicely to the iPad Airs of the world, but on the inside things are a little different. Powered by an Intel Atom Z3736F running at 2.6 Ghz with 2GB of RAM, this guy is capable of running proper Windows applications if you choose to go the Windows route, and on the Android side of things it should exhibit some pretty snappy performance as well. There are a pair of cameras here as well, with a 2-megapixel shooter up front and a 5-megapixel shooter around back. MicroUSB and mini HDMI output come along for the ride and it seems that Telecast have managed to squeeze quite a lot into this guy, including a spacious 8,500 mAh battery.
Starting at just $179 with 32GB of storage, the X98 Air 3G looks like a pretty enticing deal however, I wouldn’t expect too much from the build quality of this guy. After all, it says something about your device when the only press images you have seem to pay more attention to the pretty women than it does the hardware you’e trying to sell. Nevertheless, if you find one of these on your favorite import site, or you’re in the region looking for a decent tablet on the cheap, this does sound pretty good on paper at least.
