Like our readers, the Android Headlines team are spread all over the world. We occupy different timezones which means as I sit down to write this in the UK it’s the evening. So when I say that I have “that Sunday night feeling,” it might be difficult for those readers to imagine that it’s already dark here and the day has almost been done and gone. And by “that Sunday night feeling” it means that I need to think about preparing for my day job; ironing my clothes, polishing my shoes, that sort of thing. Except tomorrow is going to be a little different because it’s launch day for some Nexus 9 tablets; black, white 16 GB and 32 GB WiFi-only models are showing as expected “leave warehouse in 1-2 days.”
Let me get the bad news out of the way first: the 16 GB and 32 GB black and white models are being released. Google shows the Sand(tan) color models are “coming soon.” The change in status is only showing on the Google Play Store; we’ve no news if other retailers have their stock for delivery. Recently, we heard that people who had pre-ordered their devices from Amazon would be getting the device by Christmas. If you’ve heard anything from another retailer, do please hit us up in the comments below.
As for the Google Nexus 9, websites all over the world already have their Nexus 9 tablets. We have ours. We can’t formally write anything about them at the moment, but a review of our Nexus 9 will be coming along shortly. Meanwhile, we’re left wondering what’s going to be the most significant thing about the Nexus 9. Will it be the 64-bit dual core Nvidia K1 processor or the 8.9-inch, 4:3 aspect ratio, 2,048 by 1,536 pixel screen? Will the 8 MP rear camera be a decent addition to the tablet or an also-ran? What’s the battery life? Does that powerful 2.3 GHz 64-bit processor chew through the 6,700 mAh battery like me with java juice at a coffee convention, or does it instead elegantly sip at the electrons? Or, as I suspect, the device is more about the operating system and the deep rooted improvements Google has made to Android 5.0 Lollipop? Unfortunately, I still have my Sunday night feeling. I didn’t pre-order the Nexus 9 under strict instructions from my nearest and dearest. Instead, I’ll be tapping that “check software updates” on my other Nexus products (Nexii?) until I get the over-the-air update to 5.0 Lollipop!
