Certain Chinese manufacturers seem obsessed with releasing ultra thin phones these days. Oppo took the crown from the Indian manufacturer Gionee, when the company launched the Oppo R5 handset which is 4.85mm (compared to Gionee Elife S5.1’s 5.1mm of thickness). Another Chinese vendor, Vivo, intends to trump Oppo and release a handset which is 4.75mm thick, Vivo X5 Max. This handset has visited TENAA earlier this month and revealed part of its specifications and Vivo has already released a teaser image for the X5 Max teasing its thin form as well as some sort of audio functionality the company will showcase during the event in December.
We have some new information when it comes to Vivo X5 Max. If you take a look at the gallery down below (first 2 images down there) you’ll notice how thin this device truly is, that’s how 4.75mm looks like. I’ve ranted about those ultra thin devices so many times before that I really don’t have the strength to do it all over again. To cut the long story short, they’re too thin in my humble opinion, not only are the awkward to hold and easier to break but they also pack smaller battery pack that regular smartphone and offer really sub-par battery life. That being said, there are people who love such devices, of course, I’m not here to judge, they just don’t make any sense in my opinion, that’s all.
This is not all though, we also have some information when it comes to this handset’s internals. Vivo allegedly created a single-chip panel on which the company included more than 90% of the components in order to save space inside the phone itself. This chip is allegedly only 1.77mm thin according to this leak, which is impressive. This will reportedly also help the phone cool down faster or something to that effect, details are rather unclear when it comes to that.
Vivo X5 Max will quite probably launch in December and feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB). This handset will be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz (the SoC manufacturer wasn’t revealed by the TENAA listing, but I’d bet it’s MediaTek). On the back of this device you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel camera and it will also sport a 5-megapixel sensor up front. This will be a 4G LTE capable device and it will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. Vivo X5 Max will measure 153.9 x 78 x 4.75mm.
