Vivo X5 Max Is Set To Become The World's Thinnest Smartphone, For Now at Least

Gionee Elife S5.1 entered the Guinness World Records archives as the thinnest smartphone on the planet, that handset is 5.1mm thin. Elife S5.1 was dethroned about a week ago when Oppo announced the 4.85mm thin Oppo R5 and surprised everyone. It seems like this handset won’t stay on the top for too long though, Vivo X5 Max just got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent of the FCC) and believe it or not this handset is only 4.75mm thin. I think these Chinese manufacturers got it backwards, a vast majority of us need better battery life, not phones which are thinner than a piece of paper. It’s nice to see a phone like that, but the thinner it is the easier it breaks, that doesn’t have to be the case, but there’s always a chance. That also means we get a rather small battery packs inside of those devices, which is also a huge problem, at least for me. I hate to charge my phones several times a day and I believe most of you will agree with me.

Be as it may, Vivo X5 Max will feature a 5.5-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display along with 2GB of RAM for all your multitasking and 16GB of internal storage (expandable via MicroSD card up to 128GB). This handset will be powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, the listing doesn’t say which brand will make it, but I’d bet it’s a MediaTek chip. On the back of this device you’ll be able to find a 13-megapixel camera and it will also sport a 5-megapixel sensor up front. This will be a 4G LTE capable device and it will ship with Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box. Vivo X5 Max will measure 153.9 x 78 x 4.75mm.

We still don’t know when Vivo intends to launch this handset, but considering it paid a visit to TENAA, it shouldn’t be long before Vivo announces this thing. I said my peace when it comes to these unbelievable thin handset, but I’d like to hear what you have to say about them? Do you think that manufacturers are pushing things too far with such devices and how important is battery life to you?
