Android OTA: Device Updates & Firmware Weekly Report – December 12th Edition

T-Mobile Update the Samsung Galaxy S4, Galaxy Avant and the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 LTE

This week, T-Mobile decided to update a good number of Samsung devices, and while they’re all minor updates, we’re no less happy to see them hit. The Galaxy S4 gets updated to software version M919UVUFNK2 and while the T-Mobile support page lists “Chinese language” support, we expect there’s a little more to it than that. The Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 LTE is updated to software version T337TUVU1BNK4 and the support listing promises “software stability”. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Avant, which is the only one of the three on Android 4.4.2 gets updated to G386TUVU1ANK3, with the changelog found here.

Moto  G (2013) Google Play Edition Gets Updated to Android 5.o.1 Lollipop

If you have a Moto G, last year’s model, and it just so happens to be a Google Play Edition, then you should have gotten the update to Android 5.0.1. The LRX21Z build comes in around 380MB and if you haven’t got the OTA just yet, you can download the ZIP from Google here, and sideload it as normal.

Minor Update for Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact Starts to Roll Out

A small update for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact has appeared with a software number of 23.0.1.A.5.77, for both the D6603 and D6653 versions of the Z3 and D5803 and D5833 versions of the Z3 Compact. The update appears to be very small in nature and brings with it the Portrait Retouch app from the Xperia C3 and other small changes.

DROID Turbo Gets the Gift of Advanced Calling 1.0 in Latest Update

‘Tis the season of giving and Verizon is giving users of the DROID Turbo the ability to use voice and data at the same time. Which for a GSM user like myself doesn’t seem so great, but it’s nice to see it being patched in. That’s all there is to see here really, the software version you’re looking for is pictured above and you can read more about Advanced Calling here.

Verizon Updates the Galaxy Note 4 with Gear VR Support

When Samsung released the Galaxy Note 4, they did so alongside the Gear VR, which is steadily hitting shelves. However, it appears that Galaxy Note 4 devices need to be updated to allow for such magic. Verizon has pulled the trigger with the update, which you can read all about in the above screenshot. The update on Verizon also brings with it a transparent Amazon widget…which is…nice?

Android Wear 5.0.1 Update Starts to Roll Out to Watches

Earlier this week, the Android Wear Lollipop update was formally announced and it’s all about the watch faces. You can read more about the update here. Now, if you haven’t gotten the update yet – I haven’t – and you’re willing to sideload – I’m not – then you can go ahead and check out our post on that here.
