The Dictionary.com Android app is getting a big update today to version 5.0. The new version introduces a bunch of new features and includes both the free, ad-supported version and the premium, ad-free version of the app. There’s even a sale on the premium version to celebrate the big update. Instead of paying the normal $3.99 for the Dictionary.com app, you can get it for just $2.99 through December 21.
The update to the app brings with it a Word of the Day quiz widget in both the free and premium versions. The premium version also gets a ton more features like a translator with over 20 languages, a slang dictionary with 19,000 definitions, a medical and a science dictionary with tens of thousands of definitions in each, a rhyming dictionary for those times that you just have to words that rhyme, a Grammar & Tips section with thousands of tips and notes, and a bunch more features. It’s a pretty massive update that will make anyone who loves words and definitions very happy. The updated version of the Dictionary.com Android app comes not long after the update to Zynga’s Words With Friends app that includes a dictionary that is powered by Dictionary.com.
Dictionary.com is a publicly traded company that is the “world’s leading, definitive online and mobile resource for everything word related.” They have over 70 million users across three websites; Dictionary.com, Thesaurus.com, and Reference.com. Their mobile apps have been downloaded more than 90 million times on multiple platforms. They provide definitions, synonyms, audio pronunciations, example sentences, and translations to users of their websites and apps. The Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com apps and websites are ones that I use on a regular basis.
You can get the free version of the app here and you can find the premium version of the app here. The premium version offers a lot more features and is $1 off through December 21. You can pick it up for just $2.99 from the Google Play Store before then. After the 21st it goes back up to $3.99. Grab it while it’s on sale, if you can.
