Featured Review: Aukey Quad-USB Port Car Charger

Aukey makes some great chargers. They have quite a few. We’re always running across deals on their multi-port wall and desktop chargers. They also have multi-port car chargers. Today we’re going to take a look at a car charger from Aukey that has four, count them, four USB ports. This charger puts out 48W/9.6A in total. Each port gets 2.4A. That’s almost one full amp more power than your standard issue wall charger. This thing is a beast.

Design

When we open the box for the Aukey Quad-USB Port Car Charger, we find the charger in a soft, white, plastic sleeve, and underneath it is the instruction manual. Why would you need an instruction manual for a car charger, you ask? Because the manual describes Aukey’s cool AIPower feature. AIPower is the feature that regulates the charge coming out of each USB port, preventing it from frying your phone with too much juice. It “automatically recognizes your mobile device” and makes sure that your device is compatible. The technology then protects against over-current, over-charging, and short-circuiting your device. The charger will identify the voltage setting of each device that you plug into it and adjust its output to match. Each of the four ports has AIPower technology, so no matter which port you use, you’re safe. Other than that it looks like a USB car charger, just with more ports. It’s built well. It feels sturdy and I’m not worried in the least bit about it breaking.

Using The Charger

The Aukey AI-Power Quad-Port USB Car Charger charges fast; just as fast as, or faster than, your wall charger at home. Because you’re getting up to 2.4A per port, you’ll get a relatively quick charge. I didn’t ever need to use all four ports at once, but I did have both my wife’s phone and my phone plugged in at the same time. They both charged up at a decent pace. The manual does say that if you’re using all four ports for an extended period of time, the charger may heat up. I didn’t experience this at all. I don’t think it’s something to be concerned about, but it is something to keep in mind. I don’t know why you would need all four ports for a long period of time, unless maybe there’s an emergency power outage and all you have is your car to charge your devices. This thing works great, though.

Wrap-up

There’s not a whole lot to say about a car charger, but Aukey makes a great one. We can add the AI-Power Quad-Port USB Car Charger to the line of other great chargers they offer. This charger works great, keeps your devices safe, and should hold up for a good long while. The AIPower technology makes me comfortable using all four ports at the same time if I ever need to do that. Aukey has the charger listed on their website for $39.90. You can get it on Amazon for $16.99. It’s totally worth it.
