Hisense might not be the most recognized brand name as far as tablets are concerned, but the manufacturer is doing quite well in western markets with its well-built devices including TVs and tablets, which often have a surprisingly active community going for it. The Hisense Sero 8 is an up and coming tablet from the maker which is scheduled to make an official appearance soon. It comes with an iPad mini 2-esque high-res display, a powerful quad-core processor among other internals, and is priced EUR 199 for the European market, with the pricing for the US yet to be announced.
Let’s talk about the device itself in greater detail. It was spied getting certified at the FCC earlier, which means a full launch isn’t very far. As mentioned earlier, the Sero 8 has a high-res screen — 2048 x 1536 to be precise, through a 7.85-inch display. This makes it a direct competitor to the iPad mini 2/3, at least when you’re talking strictly about the display. It’s powered by the now-popular Rockchip RK3288 SoC, which we’ve earlier seen power a lot of Android TV boxes from China. The RK3288 has a quad-core CPU, with the cores built on the Cortex A17 platform. To go with that, Hisense have paired 2GB of RAM which should translate to some decent multitasking.
Other specifications of the tablet include a 5 mega-pixel rear camera, a 2 mega-pixel front camera and a battery of 4400mAh capacity. It also has the customary support for Bluetooth and WiFi, besides having a MicroSD slot for expanding storage up from the stock 16GB. Dimensions of the tablet are: 200.6 x 134.6 x 6.4mm, which does make it sound like quite a handy device, at least on paper. The EUR 199 price tag for the Hisense Sero 8 certainly sounds enticing, and I won’t be surprised if the device gets a great response in the market. Looks are something which might not be to everyone’s taste, but with a limited budget you can’t really satisfy every customer in the market on every segment. Also, with the Nexus line starting to become more expensive, makers like Hisense really have a good chance at making it big on the scene with some quality hardware on offer.
