HTC has been constantly pushing its mid-range portfolio forward by releasing new devices. It looks as though the Taiwan company is keen on making it big commercially; most of its high-end phones including last year’s M7 and this year’s M8 have been rather successful. The new and revamped HTC that we’re witnessing now is pushing hard to make a name for itself in the budget market, ruled by the likes of Samsung, Xiaomi, etc.
The latest devices to adorn the mid-range portfolio of the company are the dual-SIM HTC Desire 620 and the Desire 620G. The smartphones have only gotten a Taiwan release yet, and will go on sale in the country soon. Following which, they’ll be made available in other Asian and European markets. To make the devices within reach of budget buyers, HTC have gone for the popular Snapdragon 410 SoC on the Desire 620, while the company will ship the Desire 620G with the octa-core MediaTek MT6592 chipset. As you might already know, the MediaTek MT6592 doesn’t offer an on-board LTE modem, and therefore, the Desire 620G will lack the functionality of 4G LTE connectivity unlike its Snapdragon 410 powered sibling.
Besides the SoC, the two devices share a lot in common; this includes a 5-inch 1280 x 720p HD display, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage, an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. The battery on these devices does look like it could use a bit more capacity, it stands at 2100 mAh. Both devices will also offer dual SIM, a feature that’s more than just popular in Asian markets where users like to switch between carriers depending on which one offers a more affordable service / prices.
The Desire 620 is all set to go on sale starting December 1st for NT$6990 or US$225, while the MediaTek MT6592 powered Desire 620G will go on sale a couple of weeks after that, for NT$4,990 or roughly US$160. HTC will hope to buy a section of the budget market with these devices, especially in the Asian market where budget phones rule the roost.
