2014 was a good year for HTC. Early on they launched their flagship device the HTC One M8 which quickly became a fan favorite among users. Later on in the year, HTC then held their ‘Double Exposure’ event which had a high focus on camera abilities. The main attraction for the event was the HTC Desire EYE. This was a new addition to the Desire range which strangely came with a 13MP camera on the front and a 13MP camera on the back. However, the big talking point of the Double Exposure event was the strangely alluring, periscope type device, the RE Camera. This was a small 16MP wide lens camera, which had a high focus on its ability to be used inside, outside, underwater and just about anywhere.
Now in spite of the RE camera only recently been released we heard a couple of days ago reports that HTC are already working on a sequel. The RE Camera 2 or as it is being informally dubbed ‘GC2’. At the time, we knew very little of what GC2 would offer (and we still don’t really know anything to be honest). In fact, the only news was that it was expected to be released sometime in 2015. On a slightly separate note, within the last week, we have also heard rumors about next year’s HTC flagship device. This one is going by the codename “HimaA”. To be clear, at the moment, it is not known if this will be the expected HTC One M9 or a completely new device. What is being rumored though, is that the specs do make the device one to watch out for. For instance, it will run on the new Snapdragon 810 processor with reportedly 3GB RAM. Not to mention it will come with a 1080p 5″ screen.
Today’s news is that it seems these two devices will not be launched together. Well-known tipster @upleaks today took to Twitter to announce the details. As is the nature of Twitter, details were limited. That said @upleaks did confirm that GC2 is in development and he believed would not be launched along with Hima. So what do you think of HTC and 2015? What are you more looking forward to? HimaA or GC2? Let us know.
