The new HTC RE Camera is finally on its way to Canada, after being announced in an unveiling in NYC in October and available in the U.S. since November. HTC Canada confirmed that their new RE camera would be available by the end of the year, but no clear-cut date was given. Now we are told that you should be able to pick one up in a Staples store for $199 this week. The HTC RE is now on sale at the U.S. Best Buy for only $99 or half the original price of $199 for a while and hopefully, it will be on sale in Canada for the Christmas season. A $199 is a little hard to swallow for a 16MP ‘candy-cane’ like camera, but at $99, I could maybe justify purchasing one. Please keep in mind that HTC is already working on the next generation to come out in 2015, so you may want to wait…just saying.
The HTC RE is a 16MP mobile camera that does not need to hook up with your phone or PC, although using your phone and the software give you a lot more control. There is a spot on its curved neck that you squeeze to snap a picture. If you hold that spot for a couple seconds, it will start filming and then a quick squeeze will stop the filming. It is powered by a 920mAh battery and has a microSD slot that comes with an 8GB card already in the HTC RE, but you can use up to a 128GB card for longer videos or more pictures. The battery is supposed to be good for 1,200 photos or 100 minutes of video. It is a strange little device and it will be interesting to see just how much it catches on and the ways people find to use it.
Please hit us up on our Google+ Page and let us know what you think of this odd piece of equipment – I mean at $99 it could be a lot of fun, especially if you buy one of the many optional holders for it – bicycle, shoulder pads, arm bands, necklace fittings and even a small tripod – but at $200 plus accessories, it can add up fast. We would love to know if you already have one and what you think about it…as always, we would love to hear from you.
