Inbox by Gmail Receives Update Including Better Android Wear Support And Tablet View

As it is Wednesday that means there are a number of Google updates on the way. There are a few in the pipeline and you will hear about these over the course of today. That said one which is specifically worth a mention is the update en route to Inbox by Gmail. The app is still in its infancy as it was only released in October. Not forgetting that it was originally released as an invite only app where potential users had to be invited to use the app by either a current user or directly by Google. For those who are wondering, it is still an invite only app. However, as mentioned the app has today received an update and an interesting one.

The biggest and most notable part of the update is that Inbox is now far more compatible with Android Wear. To be clear, it was previously compatible with Android Wear but it was not that effective and presumably not used as much as it should have been with android based wearables. That said, with today’s update, it is likely that it will be far more commonly used from now on. This is because the new update has optimized Inbox for Android Wear and now Wearers can more easily reply to emails, view and label (move) incoming messages, all from their smartwatch. Not bad huh!

The other notable features (as listed in the changelog) include a better and improved tablet experience. This seems to be a redesigned layout for tablets allowing for a better look and more user-friendly interface when using a larger screen. In addition, the changelog noted there has been an improvement made to the suggestion typing experience. This is apparently to help improve accuracy and speed of reminders when setting. The update is heading to the Play Store as we speak and as such should be landing on devices with Inbox installed soon enough. This is a staged roll-out though so don’t be surprised if it takes a while to reach you. If you want to see if it is already available for you then click here to head over to the Play Store listing.
