Back in the middle of November, Jolla followed up last years Jolla smartphone with the introduction of the Jolla Tablet. This was unveiled as another Kickstarter project from the company and quickly drew some attention. The tablet started with an initial target goal of raising $380,000 and within 24 hours this was surpassed and doubled. Following the success of the first 24 hours, Jolla added three more stretch goals for additional features to be included if the additional targets were met. Well, now the Kickstarter project has now run its course and the funding period has finally closed. Upon closing the project has managed to raise significantly more funding than it had intended. The final figure after all is said and done came in just over $1.8 million. So although the project did make most of its target goals it unfortunately, did not reach its final stretch goal.
As a result and in addition to the already announced specifications, the Jolla tablet will now also come with the addition of a microSD card slot (up to 128GB) and a split-screen feature which will allow more advanced multi-tasking. The last goal to be reached (which was not achieved) was the inclusion of 3.5G support. As such the tablet looks set to be WiFi only now. For all those that did back the project then backers who contributed at least $209 should expect to see their tablets arriving sometime in May 2015.
If you need a quick reminder on what is on offer, then the Jolla tablet will come with a 7.9″ display with a 1536 x 2048 resolution. Inside the tablet will come equipped with 2GB RAM and an Intel Atom 64-bit processor (clocking at 1.8GHz). In terms of cameras, the tablet will come with a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front shooter. Additional features worth noting, include 32GB internal storage, a 4,300mAh battery and running on Sailfish OS 2.0. Not forgetting, of course the newly added microSD card slot and split screen feature. So what do you think of the Jolla tablet now that it is all confirmed? Did you back the project? Hoping for 3G?
