Kwikset Launches Their Companion App In Public Beta For The Kwikset Kevo Bluetooth Lock

Home Automation is one of the many things that have come out of the technology age of today where nearly everything can have some sort of connection to our smartphones and tablets, or be controlled by them for various tasks, like the Nest Learning thermostat. While there are many different connect smart home products to help you automate your home and your life, today were speaking specifically of a Bluetooth enabled door lock called the Kwikset Kevo. This little Bluetooth enabled doorlock allows users to unlock their front door(or whatever door they have it installed in)with the single tap of a finger whenever they have the connected device in range.

A couple of things are needed of course for this type of technology to work and one of those things is a working and compatible application plus a compatible device, which needs to be running Android 5.0 Lollipop. Up until today the Kevo app that works with this lock was only available to private beta testers, and prior to the beta going live for Android users it was only available for those using an iPhone. The beta for anyone who is interested has finally gone public so if you’re intrigued by the idea of having a door lock you can unlock with the power of Bluetooth and your finger, you can become one of the testers for the Kevo Beta app. Don’t forget you’ll need the lock too though.

Now tapping your finger on your lock is pretty sweet and it would certainly make for an easier time getting inside your home without having to fiddle with a key. It’s even more useful if you just so happen to forget that key, but remember your phone that the lock is connected to(Guilty..)Here’s where it gets really cool though. The Kevo Beta app paired with the Kwikset Kevo Bluetooth lock, will allow you to give an ekey to select individuals so that they can also unlock the door with their own phone. The ekeys are temporary, and you’ll end up with a log of information that contains every entry into your home and door unlock using one of those ekeys. You can pick up the Kwikset Kevo on Amazon for about $199.00 down from a regular retail cost of $219.00. The $199 puts it right in line with a similar product called the Schlage Connect Camelot touchscreen door lock, although that nifty little device comes with a built-in alarm that lets you know when someone is at the front door. Sweet huh? You can grab the Kwikset Kevo app here from the Play Store link.
