Meizu has had a great year thus far. Everything has changed when the company launched their MX4 handset back in September. They were doing really well until that launch too, but after that, the company got a lot of attention from media and consumers alike and has sold a ton of those handsets. Meizu MX4 Pro device was launched recently, only two and a half months after the original MX4 launch, and it seems like this handset might enjoy a similar success like its predecessor. MX4 Pro is also a great top-notch offering and yet it costs only 2,499 Yuan in China, which is without a doubt a great price for this handset. MX4 Pro is still 700 Yuan more expensive than the MX4, but it offers a more powerful processor, bigger and higher-res display, more RAM and a fingerprint scanner below the display. This will be enough of an upgrade for many people, even though I still believe there’s no need to trade in your MX4 for the MX4 Pro.
Either way, these two handsets are actually high-end offerings by Meizu, despite the fact their prices don’t actually say high-end. There were a ton of reports claiming that Meizu intends to launch 2 more devices this year, with Meizu’s founder, Jack Wong, adding some additional fuel to that fire a while ago. One Meizu device just hit GFXBench and it seems like that’s the extremely affordable Meizu offering we’ve been waiting for. This handset will probably compete with Xiaomi’s Redmi 1S handset in China, along with some Huawei’s low-mid range offerings. According to the listing, this device features a 4.6-inch 1080p (1920 x 1080) display (although it might be a 5-inch panel after all, these listings can be a bit off sometimes) along with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. MediaTek’s MT6752 64-bit octa-core CPU clocked at 1.7GHz will reportedly power on this device, as it was rumored recently, and that CPU comes with Mali T760 GPU for graphics processing. These specs actually doesn’t sound bad at all, quite the contrary actually, especially for a device which will cost less than 1300 Yuan (at least according to rumors). It seems like Meizu will use a more standard screen resolution this time around, a normal 1080p panel instead of the unorthodox 1800 x 1080 and 1920 x 1152 resolutions the company has used in the MX3 and MX4, respectively.
We still don’t know when will this device launch, but if rumors are correct, we’ll see it unveiled before the end of this year. Thoughts?
