We’re digging into the Galaxy Note Edge now and will be doing our full review in the next week or so. But in the meantime we have some more eye candy for you. Incipio was nice enough to send over a couple of their cases for the Galaxy Note Edge and right now we’re taking a look at the Octane case. Which is a co-molded impact absorbing case for the Galaxy Note Edge. It’s not yet available on Incipio’s site, but according to Incipio it’s “precision engineered with a rigid Plextoniumâ„¢ polycarbonate back shell and a shock absorbent Flex2Oâ„¢ TPU textured bumper”. So it should provide you with plenty of protection, without adding a ton of bulk. Now we’re not going to do a drop test with the Galaxy Note Edge with the case on, but it appears to add some adequate protection to the device.
As you can see from the pictures, we have the blue case. it wraps around the device as you’d expect, and has a slightly lowered edge for the edge of the curved display on the Note Edge. Otherwise, it’s the same as any other Galaxy Note 4 case. With cut outs for the micro USB port, S Pen, speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack, microphone and the camera/flash module on the back. Now because the Galaxy Note Edge (also the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5) have the heart rate monitor on the back through the flash, Incipio has made the hole for that section a bit bigger and slanted. Making it easy to get your finger onto the flash for a heart rate reading. Which is really nice to have.
All in all, the Octane is a great case for the Galaxy Note Edge, and the best part about it, is that it doesn’t add much bulk to the device. Which is always something I kinda get worried about with these cases on these bigger phones. Because the phone is already pretty big, I don’t want it to get bigger with a case.
