Report: Samsung's Mobile GPUs Might Become Available In Mid 2015

It seems like Samsung is getting ready to launch its own GPU for its new generation of SoCs. Samsung did announce this during the Analyst Day conference, but we haven’t heard much about it until now. Samsung’s very own GPUs will replace the ARM’s Cortex architecture which are now being used in company’s Exynos SoCs. Well, according to the news from Korea, ZDNet Korea, to be more exact, Samsung is almost ready to introduce tis own GPU in order to compete with ARM and Qualcomm. According to the report, these chips might be ready for mid-2015 launch, market launch that is. Considering the timeframe, Galaxy S6 certainly won’t carry such chip, but the Galaxy Note 5 might. Samsung’s current Exynos SoCs use ARM Cortex cores for the CPU and ARM’s Mali series of GPU to handle the graphics tasks. The report doesn’t mention Samsung’s 64-bit CPU, but the company will quite probably pair everything up and come up with a new generation of Exynos SoCs.

Samsung is currently facing all kinds of issues in the market, from delays, to profit drops and is losing marketshare accordingly. We must not forget that Samsung is still the number one smartphone vendor in the world and can bleed money for decades before it bankrupts. I’m sure that Samsung will get back on its feet soon and start stealing market share from other OEMs yet again, but it will be interesting to see them do that and of course how long will it take. The competition is fierce, there are so many smartphone manufacturers out there who are just waiting for one of the big players to slip up and take the glory, especially in China. All of those companies are expanding and the marketshare might look completely different in the future, especially when Chinese OEMs finally expand their business to other non-Asian areas.

What do you make out of all this? Do you think Samsung will raise get back on its feet soon or do you think it will keep losing profit in the foreseeable future? Considering the power of this company, I can’t see that happening considering they’ve already started restructuring in order to adapt.
