We’ve received a ton of Meizu device leaks lately, but what about Xiaomi? Well, don’t worry, we have a fresh batch for you. According to the latest report, Xiaomi Mi5 might launch as soon as January, which would certainly be a surprise considering the Mi4 launched back in August and was announced in July. According to Weibo (China’s social network) entries by xzhlksh, MIUI-NS model district moderator, and iLevon, a member of the MIUI team, Meizu’s flagship handsets are codenamed after Zodiac signs. Xiaomi Mi2 and Mi2S handsets were codenamed “Aries”, Mi2A carried the “Taurus” codename and Mi3 and Mi4 were called Pisces and Cancer, respectively. Well, according to a report, Xiaomi is currently developing the handset which is codenamed “Virgo”, which basically means they’re working on a Xiaomi Mi5 handset, unless the company is planning to release an Mi4S device, or something similar to that, which is also possible. The report also states that this handset will sport an LTE network connectivity, which was kind of obvious though.
According to a previous rumor, Xiaomi Mi5 might feature a 5.7-inch Quad HD display along with 4GB of RAM and will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 810 SoC, a 64-bit octa-core chip. It’s kind of hard to believe these specs will actually make an appearance in the Mi5, especially if it launches in January considering the Snapdragon 810 won’t be available so early in 2015 and the 4GB of RAM also seems a bit over the top. I also believe the display will be somewhat smaller, a jump from 5-inches to 5.7-inches seems highly unlikely. I’m sure we’ll get a ton more rumors regarding the Mi5 in the coming weeks and I seriously doubt the company will launch the device in January, we’ll have to wait and see. What do you think, do you believe this report and think the company will, in fact, launch the Mi5 so early in 2015 or do you think they’ll stick to their usual schedule and wait until July or August in order to launch the thing? Also, what specs do you think the device will feature in the end?
