China’s smartphone manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, is doing great as far as device sales go. The company is moving a ton of devices around Asia and their business is really booming. The company recently sold 50,000 Redmi Note handsets in India in just 6 seconds, which is quite staggering. Xiaomi plans to expand their business to other parts of the world soon, but they have to overcome certain obstacles in order to do that, business is done differently outside of China, the differences are quite significant. Anyhow, we’re not here to talk about Xiaomi as a company, but one of their products, a tablet in particular.
Xiaomi MiPad is an excellent tablet offering considering the price, the original price of this tablet was 1,499 Yuan ($244) for a 16GB version and 1,699 Yuan ($276) for a 64GB version. Xiaomi decided to discount the MiPad in China recently and a 16GB version now costs only 1,299 Yuan, or $211, which is quite the steal for such a device. According to the latest rumors, Xiaomi is getting ready to launch yet another, more affordable, MiPad and it will allegedly sport a 9.2-inch display and will cost around $100. It’s kind of hard to believe that, but this is Xiaomi we’re talking about, if someone can deliver such a low price, then that’s this Chinese OEM. According to the rumors, this tablet will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 410 SoC, a 64-bit quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz which ships with an Adreno 306 GPU for graphics processing. 1GB of RAM will reportedly also come with the device and you’ll get 8GB of in-built storage here. The aforementioned display will presumably sport a 720p resolution (1280 x 720).
This tablet is supposed to launch in early 2015, at least according to this rumor. This tablet is fairly less powerful than the current MiPad, but its price should be half the price of the currently available MiPad, so we can’t exactly complain about that. Do you think this is a good move by Xiaomi, would you consider purchasing this device if it ends up costing around $100, perhaps a bit more than that? Its specifications are rather solid, especially if we consider the price point.
