Xiaomi is a big word around here at the moment. This year has been a massive year for the company with them rising to the acclaimed third biggest smartphone manufacturer in the world. This is an even more impressive feat when you consider that the company is only four years old. But their age is not represented in their ambitions with the company anticipating shipping over 100 million units next year. In fact, the CEO of Xiaomi recently stated that he expects Xiaomi to within the next 5 to 10 years be the number one smartphone manufacturer. Big claims for a young company.
Well, before they get that far and in spite of their impressive sales, they will need to make more of a mark in the US. Although their name is quickly becoming a well-known name, their products are not so well-known over here. That very well may be about to change though. Rumored reports are now suggested that Xiaomi will be making an appearance at the Consumers Electronics Show (CES 2015) next month in Las Vegas. Even more interestingly, the rumors suggest this is not just a Xiaomi attendance in effect. Instead, Xiaomi will be launching their 2015 flagship device the Xiaomi Mi5 at the show. This really will be a big turn-up and eyes on the ground will certainly want to see this device. This will be a bold move by Xiaomi. That said, we are quickly learning that Xiaomi like the big and bold moves and as such the rumors do have some weight to them.
In terms of the Mi5, we already know a little about the device. The rumored specs include a 5.7″ Quad HD display. Inside, the device is expected to come loaded with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 Octa-core processor and a 20.7MP rear camera. There is also suggestions the device will come with a fingerprint scanner. In terms of the price, the Mi5 is expected to launch for 1,999 Yuan which equates to roughly $325. If Xiaomi can bring this beast to the US at a similar price-point, then they will really make an impact. And where better to do that then CES! So what do you make of the rumors?
