After reading the title and seeing the picture you might be a little confused and that is understandable. The image above is of the current Motorola Moto E (first gen) which launched back in May of this year. To clear up the confusion, the title does talk about a second-generation device and this is not a mistake. Unfortunately there are no images of the new Moto E, so what can you do. That said, the sentiment is nonetheless true. After the release of the second generation Motorola Moto G device back in September, there were plenty of suggestions a follow-up to the 2014 Moto E would probably likely follow. And it has. Or at least that is what we are hearing. A report from a Greek tech site (source link below) have announced the details of the Moto E second generation and also suggests this will be officially announced “soon enough”.
By now, you are thinking move on, what are the specs, and I hear you. According to the reports, the Moto E (2nd gen) comes with a 5″ display boasting a 960 x 540 resolution. Inside the device comes loaded with 1GB RAM and in terms of the processor, we don’t know. This information was not provided although it is being suggested that it will possibly contain a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor similar to the 2013 Moto G. Maybe even a Snapdragon 410. Other notable features on offer include a 5MP rear shooter and LTE support. The LTE is actually a rather interesting proposition as the newer 2014 Moto G did not come with this support. For those interested in a Moto G LTE variant, it is supposed to be coming, although there is no indication as to when at the moment. The only other information noted is that the Moto E will come running on Android 5.0, aka Lollipop.
So what do you think? The details are limited so far, but it does give you some idea of what is in the works. More importantly, it is the first real indication that the Moto E is en-route and the suggestions are it will be arriving sooner rather than later. The site who released the specs do claim to have had a hands-on with the device and as such did reveal that it looks rather similar to the predecessor. However, they also did note, the new version contains a more gripped back and the now known Motorola ‘ring’ has been removed. In terms of price, again there is currently no information provided. Although as this is a Moto E, it is expected to be very reasonable priced. Motorola is unlikely to be increasing this much from what we saw with the original Moto E. That said, you never know.
