Samsung's Budget SM-J100H Handset Appears On GFXBench And A Leaked User Agent Profile

Samsung has promised that they’ll cut down on the amount of devices they release, and yet we get a ton of reports lately regarding Samsung’s new products. Well, another new handset just popped up on GFXBench and user agent profile. Samsung SM-J100H is the newest Samsung-branded handset and according to these listing, this handset will feature a 4.8-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display along with 1GB of RAM and what seems to be very limited storage. According to the listing, this handset has only 2.2GB of user-accessible storage, which means that the device probably ships with only 4GB of in-built storage.

This handset will be powered by a Marvell PXA1908 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz, a chip which we don’t see that often in the mobile world. Vivante GC7000UL GPU will be in charge of graphics processing. It seems like this device will ship with 5-megapixel cameras, one on the front and the other will be located on the back side of the device. Barometer sensor is also present here, which seems a bit odd considering this will be an extremely affordable handset and I really can’t think of a low-mid range handset which has a barometer built-in. Android 4.4.4 KitKat will ship with this device with Samsung’s proprietary UI on top of it, as usual.

This handset will launch in emerging markets for sure, at least that’s what I think will happen based on its specifications. We of course still don’t know how much will this device cost, but it will certainly be a few steps below Samsung’s Galaxy A3 for example and will quite probably be made out of plastic. The device will quite probably launch in the coming months, but we still don’t have a set date for its launch, I believe it’s safe to say it will launch in Q1 2015, perhaps even at CES in Las Vegas. Samsung has to find a way to battle manufacturers like Xiaomi in China and some other OEMs around the world which have started eating their marketshare rather quickly. Samsung is still the number one smartphone manufacturer in the world, but that might change in the near future is Samsung keeps on losing marketshare and their profits keep on dropping.
