Spice is one of the three Android One partners, and already has an Android One phone on the market in the form of the Spice Dream Uno. It looks as though Spice is encouraged by the response it has managed to garner for the low-cost device, which is why another Android One phone from the maker is out already. The new phone — Spice Dream Uno H — comes with more or less the same specifications, but the added ‘H’ means that the device will now have support for Hindi. While most smartphone users in India are comfortable using their phone with English as default, many users in emerging markets still prefer to use their phone with Hindi, which also happens to be the country’s national language.
“Keeping in line with our shared philosophy of bringing the best in technology at an affordable price, we are delighted to partner with Google to launch India’s first truly Hindi phone – the Spice Dream Uno H. We firmly believe that this revolutionary phone will contribute immensely in connecting the 300 million Hindi speaking masses to the internet with its useful applications such as Google Search, YouTube and Google Maps. After successful launching the Android One with Google in September this year, this is our next step towards making smartphones more accessible to the Hindi speaking population in the country,” said Prashant Bindal, CEO of Spice Mobile, while Caesar Sengupta, VP, Product, Google had the following to say: “Google has been pleased to work with Spice over the last few months on Android One – a program designed to help bring high-quality, affordable Android devices to everyone. We are excited by the launch of the second Spice Android One smartphone, this time targeting Hindi users. This is another step in empowering the next billion people”.
To remind you of the specifications, we’re still looking at the same 4.5-inch 854 x 480p display, 1.3GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6582 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB on-board storage, a 5 MP rear camera and a 2 MP front. The phone also has a 1700mAh battery, 3G support with dual SIM to top it off. The Dream Uno H is priced at 6,499 INR, or $102 which is about $3 expensive than the original Dream Uno.
