Sprint Announce Uber App Will Be Added To Their Bloatware On New Sprint Devices

No one likes bloatware, right? You pick up a new smartphone, open the box, quickly whack out an unboxing video to stick on YouTube, take a load of pics to show off on Facebook and then finally turn on the phone. It boots up, nice. Manufacturer logo, fine. Carrier logo, OK. “Android is Upgrading”, sure thing. Then bang. A whole shed load of apps are installed that you did not want and in some instances, did not even know existed. Bloatware, everywhere. It does not seem so bad when manufacturers do it, as it is after all, their phone. Samsung is probably the most well-known for doing this sort of thing. But hey, they make it, you buy it and so it is a fair deal in a way.

It seems though that users are not so forgiven when carriers do the same thing. They may be subsidised devices, but that is what the contract is for. You sign up for an elongated deal, which means over the course of your contract you pay for the device (and sometimes more on top). So when carriers throw their bloatware in on top of everything then it just seem a little bit too much. Well, if you are of this way of thinking then there is some bad news for you today. Even more so, if you are planning on being a Sprint customer anytime soon.

Sprint have announced today in a press release that they have added the Uber app to its list of bloatware. As such, any new Sprint device being purchased will come with Uber preloaded when it switches on. If, however, you are a Sprint customer and like Uber, then you are in luck. It seems to ‘celebrate’ the bloatware union, Sprint are offering new Uber customers $20 off of their first Uber ride. It seems the $20 discount is currently available (during December) to both new and old Sprint customers. That is as long as you do not already have an Uber account. So what do you think about the news that Sprint are adding Uber to their preinstalled apps? Is it a good thing? Or just a good thing for Sprint and Uber? Let us know.

Get your first ride free, and you’ll earn a free ride (up to $20) for spreading the word as well . It’s the ultimate win-win.
